“This might be about as lousy a holiday weekend forecast as I have ever presented,” said Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Jamie Simpson.
By early afternoon, most of Southwest Ohio and the Miami Valley will see rain that will turn steady and perhaps heavy at times through Thursday night, Simpson said.
Some thunder and lightning is possible, but no severe weather is expected.
Simpson said the latest data suggests southeast of Dayton could get 2 inches of rain.
“The record rainfall for the 4th is 2.05 inches set back in 1906,” Simpson said. “If the heavier rain can work into the Dayton area we may have a shot at that.”
Rain with thunder and lightning continues into Friday, but showers and thunderstorms should become more scattered by the afternoon, opening up some dry periods during the day.
The dew point will stay around 70 the next few days because of the moisture moving into the area. That will cause high humidity.
“When we talk mid-60s and up, that’s pretty humid,” said Metorologist Rich Wirdzek said.
Temperatures will reach the low- to mid-80s each day through the weekend.
