Former Fairborn family doctor, Greene Co. Coroner dies

A beloved family doctor in Fairborn and former Greene County Coroner has died.

Dr. Justin G. Krause, 92, died peacefully Feb. 22 at the Sloan Rehabilitation Facility in Denver, Colo., after struggling to recover from an accident. He was formerly of Fairborn and most recently of Arvada, Colo.

Krause was born May 29, 1923, in Cincinnati to the former Vadna Gardner and Albert Krause.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lois Krause; his sister, Virginia Hess of Centerville, Ohio; and his six children, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild and other loving family members, including a nephew and nieces.

Krause was preceded in death by his first wife, Glenna Krause.

Raised in New Carlisle, Krause — nicknamed Jake — was a World War II veteran, serving as a medic in the 95th Infantry Division of the US Army where he earned a bronze star medal for heroic achievement.

He attended Miami University, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Cincinnati and the University of Health Sciences at Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery, graduating in 1950 as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.

A family doctor in Fairborn from 1951-1989, Krause served as Greene County Coroner from 1965-1989 and holds the distinction of being the first Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine to be appointed at Greene Memorial Hospital in Xenia.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at the Holiday Inn, 2800 Presidential Drive. Military Honors will be held at 1:30 p.m.
