Former Girl Scout Leader Ordered To Pay Restitution

A former Middletown Girl Scout troop leader who stole $1,900 from her troops cookie sales will not be going to jail.

Heather Merritt, 26, was ordered to pay back the money she stole. She was sentenced to 180 days in jail and ordered to pay a $500 fine. However, the judge suspended the sentence if Merritt paid back the money within 90 days.

Merritt was a Girl Scout leader for students at Amanda Elementary School and Central Academy.
