Former Used Car Dealer Agrees To Plea Bargain

The owner of a now-defunct used car lot in Piqua changed his plea on Monday in Miami County.

Sam Irving Jr. changed his plea to a multi-count criminal indictment that could land him in prison for years.

Irwin Jr., 47, from Houston in Shelby County, used to own and operate a used car dealership known as Anything On Wheels in Piqua.

He appeared in court and agreed to a plea bargain. He was indicted last year on a 32-count indictment, charging him with one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, one count of tampering with records, 10 counts of theft by deception, 10 counts of passing bad checks, six charges of failure to deliver certificates of titles and four counts of defrauding creditors.

Judge Jeffrey Welbaum added up the maximum sentence and the fines that Irvin could get, amounting to 76 years in prison and fines totaling $155,000, plus a yet undetermined amount of restitution.

He accepted the plea bargain and entered no contest to all 32 counts as charged. Sentencing is scheduled for March 24.

Irvin continues to be free on bond. His trial was scheduled to begin on Feb. 12.
