Former Wayne HS Student Sentenced For Murder

A former Wayne High School teen who was arrested in 2007 and found guilty of murder of another teen was sentenced Tuesday morning.

A jury returned a guilty verdict on March 26. On Tuesday morning, he was sentenced to 41 years to life.

Officers arrested Gudonavon Taylor in 2007 for the execution of Jerod Bryson on Warren Street. Now, more than two years later, a jury deliberated over the drug-related crime and eventually reached their decision.

Taylor was found guilty of felonious assault with a deadly weapon as charged in the indictment. While in the courtroom to hear her son's verdict, Taylor's mother told News Center 7 that she does not believe that her son is a killer.

Gloria Coles said, “They got the wrong son for this. They got the wrong person.”

However, Bryson’s family believes that jury got it right. Ruby Bryson said, “My son can rest in peace now. We miss him. We love him.”

Taylor’s family does plan to appeal the conviction.
