Golden Nugget owners selling restaurant

The owners of the Golden Nugget Pancake House in Kettering have put the popular restaurant up for sale, saying the family has decided to downsize for family and health reasons.

The almost two-acre lot, more than 7,000 square-foot building, and restaurant equipment at 2932 S. Dixie Drive are listed for $2.9 million, according to the property listing.

The name and recipes are not included in the sale.

The building location was originally constructed in the 1960s but was entirely rebuilt in 2007 after a fire caused by an electrical problem.

The Dayton Daily News reported in 2007 that illness forced the owners of the Golden Nugget Pancake House to close a second location at 1510 N. Keowee St.

Original owner Steve Thomas and his wife, Bessie, opened the first Golden Nugget off North Main Street in downtown Dayton, then moved the restaurant to its South Dixie Highway location. The family opened its second restaurant at North Keowee Street and Stanley Avenue in 1975.

Steve Thomas died in 1996, and his daughters have operated the restaurants.
