Good Eats: Chocolate-covered apples flying off the shelves at new Beavercreek shop

Tracey Lawson’s apples won’t keep the doctor away.

In fact, if you eat too many of the decadent gourmet treats Lawson sells at Sweet-Umms Chocolatier in the Mall at Fairfield Commons in Beavercreek you will likely need a dentist.

It would surely be worth it.

Lawson opened the shop on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) and says the caramel and chocolate covered apples adorned with everything from Snicker candy bar pieces to Valentine's Day message candies are her biggest sellers.

They are $8 each.

A longtime home cook, Lawson started making chocolate treats about 3 years ago for clients she met while working as a nail technician. She also made them in nursing school.

“When I make stuff, I love the way it makes people feel,” she said.

The girly and pink decorated shop clearly has heart.

Lawson named the speciality shop for her beloved late aunt Lois “Sweet-Umms” Dawson.

Apples aren’t the only sweets Lawson dips.

Chocolate-covered red vine licorice, Oreo cookies, cupcakes, pretzels, turtles, marshmallows, brownies and other snacks are behind her counters.

“I also make chocolate-covered strawberries,” she said. “They are one dozen for $24.”

This is the first in a three part series on new Miami Valley businesses selling sweet treats.
