Heat Advisory Issued For The Miami Valley

A Heat Advisory is in effect for the Miami Valley from noon until 8 p.m. Monday evening.

The advisory was issued because it could feel like it's over 100 degrees today.

The National Weather Service says Monday's combination of extreme heat and humidity carries a risk for heat stroke and other heat illnesses and anyone spending time outdoors should wear lightweight, loose clothing and drink lots of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.

However, we will get some relief in the form of rain.

WHIO-TV meteorologist Rich Wirdezk said, "Heat is one of two problems today. We have strong thunderstorms to our north and the severe weather threat to the rest of us will come later this afternoon and this evening."

Those storms could have heavy rain and wind.
