The project is expected to completely finished by mid-November.
Crews are replacing the old 1950’s style cloverleaf interchange with state-of-the-art directional ramps will meet the current traffic demands plus those of the future.
The new design also eliminates the weaving movements of the cloverleaf ramps, making travel safer through the interchange.
The $145 million project was one of the largest interchange projects in Ohio. It also included the construction of the Benchwood Road/Wyse Road interchange with I-75.
“The I-70/I-75 interchange has been called the Crossroads of America because it is one of the most heavily travelled and because both I-70 and I-75 are major freight routes for Ohio and for the nation. This interchange is a major asset for the Miami Valley for moving people and goods into the region and shipping goods to the rest of the country”, said ODOT District Seven Deputy Director Rex Dickey.
The interchange was officially dedicated in 2004 as the “Freedom Veterans Crossroads” honoring soldiers that have served the country in post September 11, 2001. It also serves as a memorial to soldiers that lost their lives while serving in the armed forces.
Each barrel represents one of the five final tasks to be completed soon. Please join the Ohio Department of Transportation in the “Countdown to Completion of the I-70/I-75 Interchange.”
