Plans call for the Oakwood Candy Shoppe at 2541 Far Hills Ave., which offers candy that customers remember from their childhood, to shut down on or about Aug. 1.

“It was a very hard decision to make, but I have been working a full-time job through this whole process,” Katie Wright, the candy shop’s founder, told this news outlet on July 5. “I've learned so much through this process and hands down, I would do it again.”

“What I will miss the most are all the families that became regulars who became like family,” Wright said. “It's sad to break this news, but I feel this is the right step for me right now.”
“I had a lot of fun opening and running The Oakwood Candy Shoppe as my first business. Oakwood has been very supportive and I couldn't have picked a better location! Right now, I plan on advancing in my full-time job.”

Wright said her candy shop will liquidate “all candy, soda, furniture and a refrigerator. I plan on having a sale on all product the last couple of weeks, but right now, people have been stocking up on their favorites that are hard to find.”

In August 2017, as Wright was gearing up to open the Oakwood Candy Shoppe, she told this news outlet that she wanted to help customers bring back memories of childhood and allow them to share their favorites with their children.

“This is my first startup business,” Wright said at the time. “I just noticed that there’s not a candy store in the area, and I felt like I could have some fun doing this.”
