A propane tank caught fire tonight after an outdoor grill malfunctioned.

No one was injured in the 10 p.m. fire, which caused an estimated $3,000 in damages at a home in the 800 block of Willowdale Avenue.

Kettering Fire Capt. Neil Frederick said the grill apparently malfunctioned and sparked a fire from the propane tank.

Crews put out flames that had extended to parts of the home then allowed the tank to vent and burn off some of the remaining gas.

Frederick advised that if you’re going to use an outdoor grill, don’t put it under an awning.
