This year, the soup luncheons begin on Ash Wednesday, March 6, and continue through the last Wednesday of Lent, April 17, which is the Wednesday before Easter Sunday.
Soups are homemade by generous volunteers from the WPAFB Catholic Parish. Each Wednesday, there are generally eight to 10 different varieties. The parish serves an average of 80 to 100 people on Ash Wednesday and 40 to 60 on the other Wednesdays.
Wednesday daily Mass in the Kittyhawk Chapel is celebrated at noon. Immediately after Mass, the Chaplain, either Father Don Moss or Father David Vincent, offers the Grace before the meal and blesses the guests and those who have made and will serve the soups. The Lenten Soup Luncheons are offered by the WPAFB Catholic parish and open to the base community in a spirit of fellowship and Lenten service.
