Local brewery unveils 1st house-made root beer

Eudora Brewing Company has unveiled its first house-brewed root beer.

Eudora founder Neil Chabut said it took “two years of trial and error” before he came up with a winning recipe.

“It’s smooth, creamy and reminiscent of the draft root beer that we used to get when I was a kid,” Chabut said.

The new, non-alcoholic, caffeine-free, and gluten-free brew is called “Ken’s Root Beer,” named after Ken Brightman, a long-time family friend and the architect who designed Eudora.

“He was a tremendous help throughout the entire planning and construction phases, but unfortunately, he’s allergic to beer, Chabut said. “So he requested that I make root beer that he can drink instead. It was a small request, but one that I took seriously.”

The root beer’s ingredients include local wildflower honey and organic vanilla — “and other natural ingredients that I’m choosing to keep secret,” Chabut said.

“I hope to keep it on-tap all of the time,” Chabut said. “For now, we’re selling it for $2 a pint, and because it’s caffeine-free and non-alcoholic, even the kids can drink it.”

The craft brewery that opened in late 2013 at 4716 Wilmington Pike in Kettering offers its own beers on tap and also has a “brew-on-premises” station that allows customers to choose ingredients and a recipe and brew their own beers.
