Springfield barber shop shares free hair cuts, smiles with kids

Students lined up Tuesday to let Springfield barber Alex Robinson give them free hair cuts at the Robinson Corner Cutz barber shop before they go back to school this week.

“I just want to make some type of impression on them,” Robinson said.

The event lasted all day and featured a bounce house from Good Vibes, food provided by the upcoming Springfield Food Shack and good company.

“It’s something positive for the young people in Springfield … amid all the shooting and the negative talk about the south end,” Robinson’s mother, Kelli Robinson, said.

Alex Robinson planned to give 20 and 40 kids hair cuts. The inclement weather didn’t dissuade him.

“Rain or shine, we’re gonna make it through,” he said.

William Robinson, owner of the barber shop, donated the shop for a day to help out the community and spread some smiles. The shop has been around since 2013, but this is the first year Alex Robinson volunteered with another barber, Aaron King.

“I just love to cut hair,” Alex Robinson said. “It was no tough decision to help out.”

He believes that a hair cut can make a huge difference.

“A lot of people are surprised about free hair cuts,” he said. “A nice hair cut changes your whole attitude.”
