With few competitive races in Ohio, incumbent U.S. House members are still raising millions of dollars in the lead-up to the November midterm elections.

In the 8th congressional district, House Speaker John Boehner, R-West Chester Twp., once again out-raised all others in the state, raising $2.26 million alone last quarter alone through his Friends of John Boehner campaign account. Boehner has raised $17.69 million to date this election cycle through that account, and has more than $1.9 million in the bank. He’s spent much of that money on his fellow Republican House candidates.

Boehner, however, also raises money through his Boehner for Speaker fund and his Freedom Project Leadership PAC. He raised $5.75 million through his Boehner for Speaker fund and $180,800 through the Freedom Project last quarter.

His opponent, Democrat Thomas Poetter, raised $82,907 last quarter and has raised $164,889 to date this campaign. He had $103,642 in the bank.

The eighth congressional district includes all or parts of six counties, including Clark, Miami, Preble, Butler, Darke and Mercer counties.

In the neighboring 10th congressional district, Rep. Mike Turner, R-Dayton, raised $221,131 last quarter, raising $926,194 to date this campaign through his campaign committee. He spent $139,650 last quarter and had $456,496 in the bank as of Sept. 30. He has $6,995 in campaign debt – debt that existed during prior campaign cycles. His opponent, Democrat Robert Klepinger, has yet to file a campaign finance report. Candidates are not required to file such reports until they have raised or spent $5,000.

That district includes all of Montgomery and Greene counties and part of Fayette County.

In Ohio’s 1st Congressional District, which includes all of Warren County and a large part of Hamilton County, Rep. Steve Chabot also maintained a healthy financial advantage over Democrat Fred Kundrata.

Chabot raised $142,686 last quarter and has raised $853,988 to date this cycle. He has $761,404 on hand. Kundrata raised $14,684 between July 1 and Sept. 30 and has raised $248,680 to date this cycle. He had $76,942 on hand as of Sept. 30.

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Urbana, has raised $825,297 to date in his race against Janet Garrett, a Democrat from Oberlin. He raised $209,812 between July 1 and Sept. 30.

He’s spent $965,356, including $129,961last quarter. He had $941,831 on hand as of Sept. 30.

Garrett, meanwhile, raised $24,785 last quarter, part of the $39,863 she’s raised to date this campaign. She spent $7,275 last quarter and had $29,209 on hand as of Sept. 30.

Jordan currently represents Ohio’s massive fourth congressional district, a swath of Ohio that includes all or parts of 14 counties, including Champaign, Shelby, Auglaize and Logan counties.
