The unofficial results from the Miami County Board of Elections showed 56 percent against and 44 percent for the 1.2-mill request. Proposed improvements would include baseball/softball and T-ball fields; soccer fields; 18-hole miniature golf course; splash pad; more parking; concessions, maintenance and storage buildings.
Bill Lutz, a Troy councilman who campaigned for the parks amenities said he was disappointed by the apparent defeat.
“We are in an environment where it is difficult to add taxes,” Lutz said. “The voters have spoken. We are certainly grateful to those who supported this effort.”
Also in Miami County, voters in Monroe Twp. at Tipp City elected a new township trustee to fill the seat held by Ron Thuma, who is retiring after almost 50 years. Unofficial votes showed Lauryn Bayliff had 25 percent; Chuck Elliott, 13 percent; Greg Siefring, 38 percent; and Jamie Watkins, 24 percent.
Siefring is an engineer working with RB Jergens Contractors. He said his professional experience would be beneficial in addressing issues such as flooding.
Voters in unincorporated Concord Twp. near Troy again overturned the county commission rezoning of the Trafalgar property for agricultural to residential. The unofficial vote was 29 percent “yes” in support of the rezoning and 71 percent “no” to overturn the rezoning. This is the 19th time the rezoning has been challenged by referendum since 1995.
In other unofficial results:
- Voters in Tipp City and Monroe Twp. Renewed a 1 mill, five-year levy for the Tipp Monroe Seniors Center by 66 percent to 33 percent.
- Voters in Pleasant Hill-Newton Twp. appeared to have approved an additional property tax of 4.89 mills by 51.5 percent to 48.5 percent.

Voters in Troy were defeating a 10-year property tax to help enhance offerings at Paul G. Duke Park in early election returns Tuesday at the Miami County Board of Elections.
The results from pre-election day absentee and early voting along with 67 of 85 precincts showed 44 percent for and 56 percent against the 1.2-mill request. Proposed improvements would include baseball/softball and T-ball fields; soccer fields; 18-hole miniature golf course; splash pad; more parking; concessions, maintenance and storage buildings.
