Next month, the West Carrollton High School graduate will get to do it again — 30 years later.

The 52-year-old Miamisburg resident said in a Facebook post he was “crazy excited” to hear that he was picked by the OSU Alumni Marching Band for a repeat performance in punctuating a signature ceremony at Buckeyes football games.

The opportunity will come at Ohio Stadium as the Buckeyes host Tulane Sept. 22, just shy of three decades removed from his initial honor on Oct. 1, 1988 as a 21-year-old sousaphone-playing senior.

Dotting the “i” in “Ohio” is the finale of Script Ohio, during which band members spell out a cursive “Ohio” on the Ohio Stadium field.

The OSU Marching Band Alumni’s Board of Governors chooses who gets to dot the “i,” according to Montgomery.

“Most are former ‘i’ dotters, but that’s not always the case,” he said.
