Bingham said Delphi is denying a report in the Wall Street Journal that said there is an imminent agreement, even sending notices that deny it. He said false hopes are not what Delphi workers need.
Bingham said he wants to set the record straight about Delphi’s union workforce, whether is be the UAW, IUE or the 1,000 workers in his steelworkers' union.
He said stories that claim union workers make more than $60 an hour or $165,000 are year are just ridiculous. Bingham said his workers actually gave back a lot of concession is recent years to preserve jobs.
Bingham said Delphi is facing a March 30 deadline to file a new plan with a bankruptcy court and anyone who claims to know what will happen with retirement buyouts, layoffs or plant closings are lying.
He said he does not know what the next step will be. He said, “We are going to do everything we can.”
Bingham believes Delphi president and CEO Steve Miller is behind stories like Thursday’s report, trying to convince a bankruptcy judge that he is negotiating with the unions.
Most local UAW union leaders are going to a meeting in Detroit next Wednesday.
