A new venue in Xenia to be shared by two local colleges, the YWCA and the senior center is about to break ground.

The REACH Center will have a groundbreaking ceremony 4 p.m. March 14 at the Xenia Adult Recreation Center.

The center is a planned 75,200-square-foot facility on South Progress Drive, is a partnership between Xenia, the Greater Dayton YMCA, Clarke State Community College, Central State University, and Kettering Health Network.

Dale Brunner, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Dayton, said the $11.3 million first phase should be open in early 2019.

Brunner said the goal of the center is to have a hub where the different services are all in one place. Someone might go to a class and also use the child care services at the Y, or go to the senior center and then work out.

The facility will be home to satellite education classes from Clark State Community College and Central State University. The center will also replace the senior center and the Xenia YMCA with an upgraded building with a regulation size pool and warm water therapy pool, as well as offer expanded social services and activities for senior adults.

Kettering Health bought the land for the project and plans to eventually have a facility at the site.

Greater Dayton YMCA will oversee operations at the center. Ferguson Construction is leading the project and it will be designed similar to other multi-use YMCA managed facilities in Huber Heights, Springboro and West Carrollton.

The city of Xenia has committed $1 million toward the REACH Center. The YMCA and Xenia Adult Recreation Center also led a capital campaign to help fund the construction and CityWide Development Corp. obtained New Market Tax Credits to help finance the project.
