The recent cold and precipitated weather has halted numerous drivers in the Miami Valley during their trips.

Since Dec. 26, AAA's Roadside Rescue Team has come to the aid of more than 6,000 stranded drivers in the area, according to AAA.

Senior specialist for public and government affairs for AAA Kara Hitchens highlighted the two major reasons for stranded drivers.

Dead batteries and low to flat tires are the two common cases crew members find when they arrive to a driver's aid, she said.

Hitchens advises to check out your car battery if it is three years or older. Due to the cold weather, the acid in the battery won't be able to handle the demands of the motor and will cause the vehicle not to start or the battery to die shortly after.

The cold weather also causes tires to lose tire pressure which becomes a factor in preventing flat tires.

Hitchens also recommends dressing for the weather and not the trip. Crew members have found drivers who dressed lightly for a short trip but ended up freezing because their car stopped working.
