Parent Institute offered by district

VANDALIA — Parents who want to improve their basic computer skills or learn more about standards-based grading are invited to register for the summer Parent Institute, scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. July 23 at Demmitt Elementary School.

The classes are free, but registration is required.

The Parent Institute is a free professional development program offered by Vandalia-Butler City Schools for district parents.

The Microsoft Office class will cover basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Internet use. Participants will create a resume and cover letter and learn how to set personal budgets using spreadsheets. Space is limited for this workshop, so early registration is recommended.

Education and grading have changed significantly since parents were in school, especially with the introduction of standards-based grading. The second workshop will help participants understand how standards-based grading works and how it is improving the link between instruction and student achievement.

Parents can register for the Parent Institute by visiting www.vandaliabutlerschools.org and clicking on the “Parent Institute” link. For more information, call (937) 415-6411.
