MIDDLETOWN— The Middletown Arts Center has planted the seeds for its sixth annual garden tour, with tickets now on sale.

The garden tour will take place rain or shine from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 26 and 27, and five area gardens will be featured.

The arts center does not publicize the location of the gardens prior to the tours to ensure privacy of the people tending to the gardens beforehand, said Patt Belisle, the executive director of the center. However, tour tickets do list the locations, she said.

The event has worked well in years past, so people who attend this year’s tours will find them similar to past events, though the locations are different, said Rick Davies, one of the event co-chairmen.

“There will be a wide variety of perennials and annuals, and the nature of each backyard is a little different, but it’s not unlike last year at all,” he said of the gardens prepared by the owners without outside professional help.

The garden tour has proven popular because “people want to support the arts center, number one. A great deal of effort has gone into (the gardens), and the people are proud of what they have to display,” Davies said.

Last year, the arts center printed about 250 tickets, then ended up having a total of 300 people attend the tours, rasing $6,000 for the arts center’s programs, including scholarships and classes, Belisle said.

Tickets cost $7 and are available at the arts center on 130 N. Verity Parkway.
