LEBANON – Lebanon High School’s assistant principal has been chosen to take over as the top administrator at the school for the coming year.
Scott Butler is expected to be named the high school principal at the school board’s meeting July 26, said William Lautar, Lebanon City Schools’ human resources director.
The position was vacated by Samuel Ison, who, after 15 years in Lebanon, accepted an offer in May to be senior director of instructional leadership at Middletown City Schools.
Ison’s salary at Lebanon was $103,059.72. Butler, who’s in his ninth year at Lebanon schools, is currently earning 81,941.99 a year, according to district records. His new salary will not be available until the school board approves the contract, Lautar said. The position was posted externally and Butler was one of 26 applicants; Among the finalists was Jason Jackson, an assistant principal with the Lakota School District, Lautar said.
Prior to being hired at Lebanon in 2002, Butler was a math teacher in the Fairfield School District, where he also coached wrestling and was a percussion instructor. He is a district resident, husband and father of three, according to his resume.
School board members have also approved Bradley Potter at a salary of $79,287 to fill an assistant principal position at the high school that was already vacant.
David Gregory, a retired Franklin High School principal who worked last school year as Lebanon High School’s assistant principal, will continue in that role this school year, Lautar said.
Gregory was hired on a temporary basis at a rate of $369.45 per day.
Lautar said retaining Gregory for another year will provide some continuity of leadership at the high school, in light of all the administrative changes, including the hiring of William Stewart as the school’s new athletic director.
