AtriCure gets state funding from Ohio Third Frontier

Friday's Business In brief

AtriCure Inc., a West Chester Twp. maker of medical devices for use in heart surgery, is one of the recipients of $1 million for its development and commercialization of a minimally invasive left appendage and exclusion system, according to Ohio Department of Development.

The business collaborated with Good Samaritan Hospital, the University of Cincinnati, Battelle and the Ohio State University Medical Center.

The project will adapt the company’s left atrial appendage clip used in open-heart procedures.

The state made the announcement Thursday that the Third Frontier Commission voted to approve a total $13 million in funding through its biomedical, medical imaging, sensors and internship programs.

All awards will go through Ohio Controlling Board for approval.

Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber also was awarded $321,000 to administer a high-tech internship program in Southwest Ohio.
