But in the meantime, Margello will help the school explore a conversion to a “president/principal” model of governance.
“For Badin, this would mean the creation of a new position of president who would be the CEO of the school, whose main function would be to oversee fundraising efforts,” he said. “There would still be a principal to oversee the academics and the day-to-day running of the school.”
This is the organizational structure that is prevalent in most of the schools operated by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, as Badin is, Margello said.
The process would also include transforming the school’s current advisory committee into a more powerful board of trustees.
Margello said the structural changes are at this point only under exploration, and that nothing may change.
“At some point this winter, around December or January, a decision would be made by the board, the principal and the archdiocese,” he said. “If they adopt the president/principal model, the archdiocese and the board will begin the search to find a president.”
The timing of the proposed changes and his retirement are purely coincidental, Margello said.
“This is a long-range plan and I am retiring whether or not they adopt the president/principal model,” he said. “I will turn 65 in the middle of the school year, so it’s just my time to retire.”
