Bar Granada has set a reopening date and will have a few new twists when it re-introduces itself to downtown Dayton next weekend.
The bar at 5 W. Monument Ave. at North Main Street closed temporarily for renovations on April 20, about five months after it opened. It will reopen this Saturday, June 15, with a new craft-tequila selection, an expanded food menu and a new focus on events and entertainment, including live music, co-founder Paul Pelnar said.

A new stage is scheduled to be installed this week, and on the bar’s reopening night, it will host a live-music performance by the Dayton Salsa Project.

Each day, there will be a board listing craft tequilas available for tasting, Pelnar said. The bar also will increase its craft beer selection, and will have six beers on tap, while also retaining a variety of Spanish wines and Spanish beers.

The local food truck Latin Arepas will be preparing and serving the food, utilizing Bar Granada’s kitchen.
“They are joining us in this space, and they’ll be cooking the food here in this space,” Pelnar said.
The menu will include arepas, gourmet tacos and and other Latin fusion fare, the Bar Granada co-founder said. The drinks menu will include margaritas and other tequila-based cocktails, made with fresh-squeezed fruit juices.

Live music will be varied and will reflect the bar’s intent to be pan-cultural.
Entertainment events will not be limited to music, according to Bar Granada Manager and Event Coordinator Ami Lane.
“We will have dance and performance art events as well,” Lane said, including a performance by Griset Damas-Roche, a Flamenco dance artist from Columbus.

Plans are in the works for a major Dayton fireworks-watching party on July 3. A grand re-opening event is coming in late June in conjunction with the Downtown Dayton Partnership.
After it reopens next weekend, Bar Granada’s hours will be 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday. The bar will be open for private and public events on Mondays and Tuesdays and at other times, Pelnar said.

“We want to be a destination for events of all kinds,” he said.
Bar Granada opened in November 2018 in space that previously housed The Wine Gallery, which shut down in May 2018 after serving customers at that location for eight years.
