Beavercreek cast will stage ‘Messiah on the Frigidaire’

“Messiah on the Frigidaire” will be presented by the Beavercreek Community Theatre, Dayton-Xenia Road, at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. on Sundays from Oct. 22 through Oct. 31.

This is an Edge of the Creek production, which means that, based on language and situations, it is aimed for adult audiences and parental discretion is advised.

Under the direction of Craig Smith of Springboro, the cast will take the audience to the small town of Elroy, S.C.

The little town’s trailer park is thrust into the evangelical spotlight when Lou Ann Hightower, portrayed by Becki Norgaard of Centerville; her husband, Dwayne, played by Jeff Sams of Franklin; and her best friend, Betsy Gridley, portrayed by Rachel Wilson of Dayton, discover what seems to be the image of Jesus on a refrigerator.

Dwayne, thinking they might make a few bucks, contacts “The National Investigator” about their special refrigerator image and it soon becomes front-page news.

What ensues is a mixture of conflict, communion and old-fashioned commerce, along with a lot of comic moments, as multitudes of miracle seekers, soul searchers and disciples converge on the town, all with a decidedly political agenda.

The cast also includes Charles Larkowski of Fairborn, William Fulmer of Dayton, Melissa Ertsgaard of Dayton and Troy Lindsey and Mason Lindsey of Yellow Springs.

The crew includes Gary Thompson of Dayton as the assistant director and sound technician, Dawn Smith of Springboro as props manager, Mary Mathieu of Beavercreek as producer, John Falkenbach of Dayton as the lighting technician, Chris Harmon of Dayton as the set designer and builder and Hans Unger of Beavercreek as the stage manager.

Beavercreek Community Theatre is located in the Lofino Adult Enrichment and Cultural Arts Center at 3868 Dayton-Xenia Road, which also houses the Beavercreek Senior Center.

Tickets are $13 for adults and $11 for students, seniors and BCT members.

The next BCT show will be a BCT Youth Theatre production of “A Christmas Carol.” It will be presented Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Dec. 3 through Dec. 12.
