‘Blind Side’ mom to visit Oct. 5

The Women’s Initiative series is designed to engage more women in philanthropic discussions.

FAIRFIELD — She was the inspiration for the New York Times No. 1 best seller and hit movie “The Blind Side,” and now she’s coming to Fairfield to inspire women.

Leigh Anne Tuohy, who was portrayed by Sandra Bullock in an Academy Award-winning performance, will speak at Fairfield Senior High School, 8800 Holden Blvd., as part of Miami University Hamilton Women’s Initiative on Oct. 5.

The new program is designed to engage more women in philanthropic discussions, said Miami University Hamilton campus communications officer Perry Richardson.

“She is a great inspiration, because she delivers a simple message that anyone can make a contribution to their community and add value to the lives of others,” he said.

The signature sponsor for the event is the Women’s Fund of the Hamilton Community Foundation.

Kelli Kurtz, vice president of development at the Hamilton Community Foundation, said Tuohy is a prime example of some of the fund’s beliefs and values.

“She’s the epiphany of ‘how can I make a difference.’ We want to inspire women in our own community to get involved and make a difference right here at home,” she said.

Richardson wasn’t sure how many people would attend the free event, but is prepared for thousands to attend.

Tuohy will speak in the school’s performing art’s center, which seats 800. Overflow seating will be available in the arena with a live video stream. The arena can seat thousands.

After the speech, Tuohy will sign copies of her book, “In a Heartbeat: Sharing the Power of Cheerful Giving.”
