Cab robbery suspect threatened taxi driver's life, police say

Columbus man is accused of threatening local driver, stealing his money and taking his car.

HAMILTON — A Columbus man is to appear in court this week after he was accused of threatening the life of a local taxi driver, stealing his vehicle and his money.

The case against Abdul Abdulrahman, 28, is set for a preliminary hearing Friday in Hamilton Municipal Court.

He was arrested Saturday and booked into the Butler County Jail on seven charges, including aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, and fourth-degree felony theft. Other charges against him include receiving stolen property, driving while intoxicated, no operator's license, eluding and falsification.

He remains in the Butler County Jail $230,000 bond.

According to police, Ralph Jones, 56, of All Around Taxi, 225 East Ave., stopped to fill up at BP Oil Co., 20 N. Erie Highway, about 3:30 a.m. Oct. 21 when Abdulrahman asked for a ride.

According to police, once the taxi reached the area of Vidourek and Florence drives, Abdulrahman wrapped Jones up in his seat belt, put a knife to his throat and threatened to kill him.

Police said Abdulrahman stole about $100, ordered Jones out of the car and then drove away.

The stolen vehicle was found in Dayton.

According to Franklin County Municipal Court records, Abdulrahman has prior charges of carrying a concealed weapon and petty theft.
