Camp Hook Reunion set for June 11

FRANKLIN — Hundreds of Boy Scouts are expected to attend the annual Camp Hook Reunion June 11 at Twin Creek MetroPark, formerly Camp Hook.

Middletown’s Everett Sherron, 94, an Eagle Scout who started his Scouting career in 1928, said the camp property was donated by Charles R. Hook in the early 1920s, then named in his honor years later.

The reunion is free, and Sherron said the trails will be open. For those unable to walk, golf carts will be available.

Boy Scouts memorabilia will be displayed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Gardner Lodge. J.D. Bartlett at 9:30 a.m. will give a history of the Order of the Arrow/Nachenum Lodge.

Sherron will discuss the history of Hook Camp at 11:30 a.m., and an informal lunch will be held at the Towne Mall Frisch’s immediately following the reunion.

For years, Camp Hook, 8539 Morningstar Road, hosted Boy Scout retreats that attracted about 100 Scouts every week, Sherron said.
