Campaign tackles home foreclosure, how to prevent it

YELLOW SPRINGS — WYSO-FM and Think-TV (WPTD-TV) have partnered to sponsor a foreclosure prevention campaign entitled “No One Ever Told Me That.”

The are cooperating in a community effort that is designed to give information and resources to those who are concerned about their personal finances and the housing situation.

“No One Ever Told Me That” launched the week of Nov. 16 and is both on air and online. The project includes public service announcements, news reports and a Web site which is a clearinghouse of trusted area resources.

“Unfortunately basic financial literacy and personal economics are often not emphasized in school; and frequently money is considered a taboo subject in general,” said Neenah Ellis, general manager of WYSO.

The project addresses: Is buying a home a good idea or is it best to wait?; What affects a credit report?; How to start financial planning and budgeting.; Issues surrounding credit card use.; and How teens are coping and planning their futures. A network of community partners is working with the stations in order to provide safe, free and reliable help with mortgage problems, budget planning and with troubles that may have arisen do to job loss, health expenses or the down economy. WYSO and Think-TV launched the campaign as an extension of their “Facing the Mortgage Crisis” effort which began last May. WYSO reporters continue their coverage of mortgage issues with a series of weekly reports on Morning Edition. “No One Ever Told Me That” and “Facing the Mortgage Crisis” are funded in part by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
