“We do monthly family nights and usually they’re on Fridays,” said Kate Quackenbush, aquatics director for the West Carrollton branch. “That was our family night last October and we decided to do it again this year.”
A haunted school bus will also be decorated and available for tours. New this year is pumpkin painting and face painting. Crafts, games and a costume contest will also be available. A Halloween movie will be shown in the lobby of the facility.
The event is free and open to the public.
“Come dressed in your costume,” Quackenbush said. “We encourage you to decorate your car, and bring a bag of candy to share.”
Response to last year’s event was positive, and the YMCA hopes the event will become a standing tradition.
“Parents enjoy that their kids could go trick or treating in a confined zone,” Quackenbush said. “The older kids really enjoy the haunted bus.”
