Cause of log-frame home fire still mysterious

JEFFERSON TWP. — A fire Saturday night, Oct. 24, that destroyed an historic log-frame home is still under investigation, said Jefferson Twp. fire investigator Joe Lewis.

Lewis said the fire apparently started somewhere in the kitchen area of the house but the cause has not been determined.

Crews were notified about 7:50 p.m. and the first engine arrived at 8:02 p.m., he said. No one was home at the time, he said.

Lewis said he had no cost estimate on the damage but said the roof had collapsed and the house, built in the 1800s, was a total loss. Crews also responded from New London and Farmersville, he said.
