Centerville principal called a 'great fit' for role

Jon Wesney named the high school’s coordinating principal.

CENTERVILLE — Jon Wesney, who has been the career education principal at Centerville High School since 2004, has been named the school’s coordinating principal.

Wesney, 40, will replace longtime Principal Eileen Booher, whose retirement will be effective Nov. 1.

Superintendent Tom Henderson said Wesney would be a great fit for the role.

“Jon is an outstanding administrator who will carry on the strong tradition of excellence at Centerville High School,” he said.

Wesney has a bachelor’s degree from Moorehead State University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Dayton. He also has earned and maintains principal’s and superintendent’s licenses.

Wesney began his teaching career at Whitesburg (Ky.) High School as an industrial arts teacher, and also was employed by Wheelersburg (Ohio) Junior High in his hometown.

He was hired by Centerville City Schools in 1996 to teach drafting technology, and took on the roles of department chairman and principal designate at that time.

Booher said Wesney has enriched the career education program at CHS, and brings a long list of skills to his new position.

“He loves Centerville High School, loves kids and loves working with the faculty and staff,” she said. “And he’s a community-minded person. Those are the things that anchor this job.”

Wesney said working with students and staff on a daily basis is an awesome opportunity.

“I hope to follow in the footsteps of a building leader who had a lot of influence on me, and who I look up to, as an administrator,” he said. “There is no doubt about it, (Booher) attended everything. There has to be a balance. We have several administrators here and we can balance out the activities.”

Wesney — who lives in Centerville with his wife, Michelle, and kids Blythe, 12, and Ben, 10 — said part of his transition will involve mentoring the next career education principal. That position was posted Tuesday.

Booher said Wesney’s promotion makes her feel very comfortable about leaving CHS after 20 years.

“I know this high school is in the best possible hands,” Booher said.
