The movie centers around Jake Taylor (played by Randy Wayne) and Roger Davis (played by Robert Bailey Jr.), who are childhood best friends. But once they enter high school, and Jake becomes the basketball team’s starting point guard — and one of the most popular students in school — their friendship is pulled apart by adolescent politics.
Eventually, Roger, who becomes emotionally distraught, brings a gun to school and takes his own life. That changes Jake’s priorities and leaves him asking, “Could I have saved Roger?”
Brown called the movie “deep in a lot of ways” and “truly stunning.”
Then he added: “At some point, it’s about what you want your life to be about.”
Those who want to watch the movie — and Brown said it’s appropriate for youth, their parents and grandparents — should arrive at the theater before 7 p.m. If a showing is sold out, he said people should try to attend the next night.
When the movie is over, Brown said area youth pastors and counselors will be available in the lobby to help people “process the situation.”
He said there will be a “listening room” for those who need to discuss the movie.
