A tornado was confirmed to be a part of a cluster of severe storms that pounded parts of Clinton County overnight leaving significant damage in some areas near Wilmington.

Two homes on West Dalton Road were significantly damaged during the storms.

Ohio 730 in Clinton County is closed between the Wilmington corporation line and Ogden Road for numerous trees down and debris. Work is expected to take several hours by the Ohio Department of Transportation to clear and re-open Ohio 730.

Barns and farm equipment were damaged along Brown Road just south of Wilmington.

Significant damage to at least one barn and home in the 5300 block of Ohio 134 South was reported.

An uprooted tree crashed down onto a mobile home on U.S. 22 near Wilmington. There were people at the residence, but they were not injured.

The National Weather Service conducted a survey in the area Thursday morning and confirmed a tornado was to blame for some damage in the area.

Penny Louderback, of Wilmington, said the storm woke her up around 2:45 a.m. She woke the family up and they took shelter in the bathroom, she said.

“There were high winds, if not a tornado, for a very brief period of time,” Louderback said. “We almost immediately lost power.”

Louderback arrived at work at the Marathon station at 5:45 a.m. The gas station had lost power around 3 a.m., causing the refrigerators to shut down.

“Everything will spoil,” Louderback said. “It’s a loss of business, and therefore it’s a loss of income. It’s a big loss.”

Steve Callahan said an alert on his cellphone woke him up. He woke up the other three members of his family and they got into the bathtub.

“It sounded like a jet plane coming down the road,” Callahan said. “It was pretty wild. … Everybody’s fine. That’s what I’m grateful for.”
