CLEARCREEK TWP. — The township trustees are expected to consider the proposed rezoning of 6.2 acres just west of Drake Road and Ohio 122 for future business development on Oct. 13.
The land, next to Coomer Furniture, is currently zoned for residential uses, but in or next to an area envisioned for business development in the township’s master plan.
The owners, members of the Coomer family, want the trustees to rezone the land for neighborhood businesses ranging from gas station to grocery to bar to funeral home to office.
“We have no plans,” John Coomer, part-owner of the parcel.
The surrounding properties are a mix of homes and businesses.
Michael Miller, whose home is across Ohio 122 from the store and land up for rezoning, worries that businesses, such as a 24-hour service plaza, would worsen traffic on the road, hurt his property values and lead to lights blaring into his windows at night.
“They can put a bar over there if they want to,” he said.
Part of the parcel was changed back to residential zoning in 2005. The owners want it returned to business zoning for eventual sale, Coomer said.
“Nobody’s approached us (about selling the land),” he said.
The trustees are expected to consider and possibly vote on the rezoning during a meeting, set to begin at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the Clearcreek Twp. government center, 7593 Bunnell Hill Road. For information, call (937) 748-1267.
