The driver of a dump truck was taken to a Toledo hospital by Mercy Health Life Flight after it crashed into a semi on U.S. 33 Monday morning, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The status of the dump truck driver, 54-year-old Joseph P. Menster of Delphos, was not available.

Menster was traveling on U.S. 33 east near Wapakoneta shortly before 10 a.m. when a semi stopped at a stop sign on the I-75 north exit ramp pulled out.

The semi driver, 52-year-old Robert A. Eshelman of New Carlisle, apparently did not see the dump truck when he pulled out from the stop sign.

The dump truck hit the semi near the left back tires, causing the vehicles to get entangled, according to the highway patrol.

The semi flipped onto its right side and both vehicles slid into the grass median.

Mesnter was trapped in the cab of the dump truck for roughly an hour, and Eshelman was not injured in the crash.

The incident shut down U.S. 33 for more than four hours. The road reopened around 1:15 p.m.

Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. OSP is continuing its investigation.
