A man helped his blind neighbor safely escape after a fire broke out in a Dayton home Thursday, according to firefighters.

Crews were dispatched to the house in the 1000 block of Clement Avenue around noon and reported smoke coming from the house, according to initial reports.

A neighbor who saw the smoke went into the house and helped get the homeowner out, firefighters said.
Minor damage was reported in the house after crews contained the blaze, firefighters said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
