Cause of house fire in Riverside under investigation, battalion chief says

UPDATE @ 7:40 p.m.: The cause of the house fire in the 4500 block of Maughn Drive is under investigation, a Riverside fire battalion chief said.

The fire, which caused "significant damage," appears to have started in the rear of the small, single-story home, the battalion chief said. No estimate of damage to the structure or contents was given.

No one was home at the time of the fire, although word was communicated via regional dispatch that occupants were able to get out of the structure.

Fire crews from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and Dayton fire Ladder 18 assisted Riverside firefighters.

Michele Sotelo, a neighbor, said she saw smoke from the fire.

"We were concerned about the lady" believed to be the resident, Sotelo said.

Crews remain on the scene of a house fire in the 4000 block of Maughn Drive in Riverside.

We're hearing that all of the occupants were able to get out of the structure. We've heard no reports of any injuries.
