Cupping therapy not just happening in Rio

Many people have seen the photos of U.S. Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps and other athletes in Rio that have embraces cupping, a type of therapy designed to reduce inflammation of muscles and tissues.

The same therapy is also offered by some people working in the Miami Valley.

Tzuling Kuo works at Massage RX in Centerville and does the cupping therapy on some of her clients.

“A lot of my friends and clients would tag me on Facebook or text me about…did you see the cupping on Michael Phelps,” Kuo told News Center 7’s Kate Bartley.

Kuo said the therapy, which can help people with arthritis and other issues that arise from inflamed muscles or tissue, costs $75 per hour.

She said if offers a similar result as a massage, but with reverse pressure.
