Dad killed, son hurt in crash near Richmond

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office hopes an autopsy, toxicology tests and an interview with an injured 18-year-old help them determine what led to single-car accident Friday afternoon that left the teenager’s father dead.

Chris Fields, 46, of Richmond, was killed when the Nissan 350Z sports car he was driving slid sideways and crashed into a concrete post at the foot of a driveway in the 1600 block of Buttermilk Road, northeast of the city, Sheriff Jeff Cappa told News Center 7’s John Bedell.

The man’s son, Tanner Fields, remained in critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital, a hospital official told News Center 7 late Friday night.

Cappa said the father is believed to have died at the scene and there was no immediate explanation as to why the car crashed.

Deputies were dispatched at about 2:45 p.m. on a call regarding a single-car accident, Cappa said.
