Dayton Children’s staff make girls 9th birthday in hospital special

A 9-year-old has been in the hospital for two consecutive years on her birthday.

Brooklynn Diggs, a third-grader at Jane Chance Elementary School in Miamisburg, has been at Dayton Children’s Hospital since Saturday due to Adenovirus and salmonella poisoning.

For her birthday on Monday, the Dayton Children’s staff sang to her and gave her a doll.

Brooklynn’s parents, Joshua and Ki’asha Diggs, told us she has a history of severe allergies and asthma, and is highly allergic to wheat, fish, nuts, eggs and dairy.

Last year on her eighth birthday, Brooklynn also was hospitalized after an acute allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) due to a Twizzler, which contains wheat.

Brooklynn is doing well and is on her way to a full recovery.
