Dayton Dragons home opener one of the coldest at Fifth Third Field

Dayton Dragons fans braved the cold wearing winter coats, with some snuggled under blankets for Saturday’s Home Opener.

The 40-degree first-pitch temperature was among the lowest for Opening Day in the last decade at Fifth Third Field, and temperatures were expected to drop through the night as the Dragons took on the Bowling Green Hot Rods.

It’s unseasonably cool with temperatures nearly 20 degrees below normal for early April, according to Storm Center 7 meteorologists.

Following are game time Opening Day temperatures as reported by the Dragons, with a 10-year average of 55.1 degrees:

  • 43 degrees: April 6, 2017 vs. Lake Country
  • 37 degrees: April 9, 2016 vs. Bowling Green
  • 72 degrees: April 12, 2015 vs. South Bend
  • 60 degrees: April 3, 2014 vs. West Michigan
  • 46 degrees: April 12, 2013 vs. Great Lakes
  • 51 degrees: April 5, 2012 vs. West Michigan
  • 59 degrees: April 7, 2011 vs. Bowling Green
  • 50 degrees: April 8, 2010 vs. Lansing
  • 61 degrees: April 9, 2009 vs. Great Lakes
  • 72 degrees: April 7, 2008 vs. Fort Wayne
