Had the fire happened late at night or overnight, he said, “we could’ve had a totally different situation here. It all turned out well, we’re glad for that. But we can’t stress enough the value of keeping your smoke detector with a fresh battery in it.

He estimated the damage to the structure and contents at $15,000 to $20,000.
