Dayton man arrested with 155 grams of heroin in Portsmouth

Dayton man Jerome McCleskey, 20, was arrested Monday night with more than $16,000 of heroin in Portsmouth, Ohio, according to the Portsmouth Police Department.

Portsmouth Police were called to a Krogers on the 800 block of Gay Street at 11:45 p.m. on Monday night regarding two suspicious males wandering around the store. Upon arrival officers began to question the suspects and learned that McCleskey had a warrant for his arrest from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office.

When the two officers on scene attempted to arrest McCleskey he started to flee and a fight ensued involving all three men. McCleskey was eventually handcuffed and transported to the Scioto County  Jail.

According to Portsmouth Police Operations Captain Lynn Brewer, when searched McCleskey was found to be in possession of 155 grams of heroin and 1.5 grams of methamphetamine. The combined street value of the drugs is approximately $15,650.  Additionally McCleskey also had $5,128 of cash in his possession.

McCleskey was charged with Possession of Heroin, a felony of the first degree, Possession of Methamphetamine, a felony of the 5th degree, Trafficking in Drugs containing Heroin, a felony of the first degree, and resisting arrest, a first degree misdemeanor.

Captain Brewer is also asking for additional charges due to the fact that both officers and McCleskey were injured during the arrest. All injuries were non life threatening.

If McCleskey is convicted as charged he could face up to 23 years in prison and fines totaling up to $41,000.
