Dayton program to offer free tax preparation services

An annual program to help low- and moderate-income taxpayers make the most of tax refunds kicks off today in Dayton.

Members from the Dayton Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Coalition will operate 14 free tax preparation sites staffed with IRS-trained volunteers to help those eligible claim the federal Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit.

Credits can range from $529 to $6,557 depending on taxpayer eligibility and the number of dependents.

A kick-off event will take place Friday morning, with Dayton Coalition volunteers, Montgomery County Commissioners, Dayton Commissioner Jeffrey Mims Jr and other community leaders.
