Greene County Animal Control officers found Brave and brought him in to receive treatment.
“He’d been abandoned, abused and dropped off in the middle of nowhere all in his 8 months of life,” said Julie Holmes-Taylor, director of Greene County Animal Control.
While it looked like Brave was wearing a collar, the “log chain” that was around Brave’s neck was hurting him, according to Holmes-Taylor.
“It’s a thick, heavier chain used to tow a car,” she said. “...It was too heavy for him and it wore into his neck. Now he has a significant injury.”
Ohio has an animal confinement law with some local cities, such as Dayton, considering ordinances about the amount of time a dog can be left or tethered outside.
“We want people to confine their animals,” Holmes-Taylor said. “But you also have to do your due diligence and make sure you’re taking care of them.”
Holmes-Taylor said they may never know who did this to Brave, but he is recovering well and will soon be up for adoption.
