The case is closed, according to Piqua Police Chief Bruce Jamison.
According to Piqua police Lt. Bill Collins a preliminary investigation of the accident indicated that the 15-year-old, identified in a crash report as Kasin Knicely, was traveling at a fast rate of speed down a steep hill, eastbound on Convington, when he came around two parked cars and into the westbound lane. That’s when he collided with a Honda Civic.
“The driver had no time to respond,” Collins said.
Nick Sudduth, an occupant in the Honda Civic, told police that “the boy’s head hit the top of the windshield. I checked to make sure my mom (the driver) was okay, then I got out of the car and called 911,” according to the crash report.
Knicely was thrown through the windshield, injuring the driver, who was identified as Kelly Thomas of Covington.
Care Flight flew Knicely to Miami Valley Hospital with critical injuries. His condition was unknown as of 1 p.m. Wednesday. The crash report does not indicate if Knicely was wearing a helmet.
Thomas was transported to Upper Valley Medical Center with serious injuries. Her condition was unknown as of 1 p.m. Wednesday.
