According to the USGS, earthquakes in the eastern United states can be felt in a much larger distance than those on the West Coast. People as far as Cleveland reported to the USGS that they felt the earthquake.
Earthquakes can happen anywhere there are faults in the bedrock, even where there aren’t well-defined fault lines. This is typical of how earthquakes occur in the Central and Eastern U.S.

In the Northeast Ohio seismic zone, the first earthquake was recorded in 1823 and the largest in that area was a 4.8 magnitude quake back in 1986.
No injuries were reported.
